7. Sonata Arctica formed in in the little town of Kemi, Finland. The lineup consisted of vocalist/keyboardist Tony Kakko, guitarist Jani Liimatainen, bassist Janne Kivilahti, and drummer Tommy Portimo. Perhaps the strangest thing about this power/progressive metal crew is the fact that early in their career, their style was uninvolved with metal.
